Case Study: Warehouse Access Control Modernization

Situation

Settler was engaged by a manufacturing client who had recently purchased a warehouse and light manufacturing facility in an adjacent business. The acquisition had Keri Systems equipment that was at least 15 years old and still functioned well, but was a fully on-prem solution. The system managed 6 doors.

Additionally, the acquisition had been associated with some turnover in key roles and the new ownership no longer had access to the ACMS by password. This left credentials for former employees active and created significant security vulnerabilities.

Several other integrators had stated that the only way to return the system to full functionality was to rip and replace all controllers and set up a new ACMS, including rebuilding the credential database and door schedules. 

Solution

Settler worked closely with Keri OEM representatives to assess existing hardware. A viable upgrade path was identified that allowed existing equipment to be connected via a Cloud Communicator to Keri’s Borealis Cloud ACMS solution.

Outcomes

The cloud upgrade was completed successfully with less than 5 minutes of downtime. No controller replacements were required and the database was migrated to the new solution intact. All doors and credentials continued to function.

Ownership of the acquired company gained control of the access system and was able to deactivate credentials for former employees.
