The Challenge: Inherited Access Control After a Business Acquisition

Settler was engaged by a manufacturing client who had recently purchased a warehouse and light manufacturing facility as part of an adjacent business acquisition. The acquisition included a fully on-prem commercial access control system (Keri Systems hardware at least 15 years old) that still functioned but managed only 6 doors with no cloud connectivity.

Additionally, the acquisition had been associated with some turnover in key roles and the new ownership had lost administrative access to the ACMS. This left credentials for former employees active and created significant security vulnerabilities.

Several other integrators had stated that the only path to full functionality was a full rip-and-replace of the door access control system: all controllers, a new ACMS, and a rebuilt credential database.

The Solution: Cloud-Connected Access Control Without New Hardware

Settler worked closely with Keri OEM representatives to assess existing hardware. A viable upgrade path was identified that allowed the existing key card access system to be connected via a Cloud Communicator to Keri's Borealis Cloud ACMS without replacing any hardware.

Results: Full System Restored in Under 5 Minutes, Zero Hardware Replaced

The cloud upgrade was completed successfully with less than 5 minutes of downtime. No controller replacements were required and the database was migrated to the new solution intact. All doors and credentials continued to function.

Ownership of the acquired company gained control of the access system and was able to deactivate credentials for former employees.
