Why We Install Hanwha Security Cameras
Many security camera installers call themselves “agnostic,” meaning they don’t care what kind of systems they work on. At Settler, we are emphatically NOT “agnostic.” Most buyers aren’t camera experts and cameras look very much alike until they are installed and they aren’t doing the job. Our clients expect us to know the market and to have a (well-researched) opinion.
While we can work with almost any security camera system on the market, we take pride in the work we’ve done to understand what the market offers and help our clients choose the best products for their use case. We keep an up-to-date set of preferred brands based on situation and use case.
One of our preferred brands is Hanwha Vision (formerly Hanwha Techwin). We recommend these cameras for projects that require durability, performance, and/or the integration of higher-end cameras (like PTZs). Hanwha cameras are a good blend of capability and reasonable cost.
Hanwha is a globally-recognized brand. They offer several different series of cameras, most of which are NDAA compliant. They are often positioned against more expensive brands like Axis and Avigilon, but they are generally at a more mid-market price point. While we recommend and install cheaper cameras (like Uniview), for light duty applications, clients with heavy outdoor/industrial exposure appreciate their robust build quality and multi-year commercial warranties (as long as 5 years). We have helped clients with several Hanwha RMAs and can attest to their integrity in honoring warranties as well.
Although the specs on two 4MP cameras can look very similar on page, not every sensor is able to deliver the same image quality, even if the pixel count is the same. Clients with large facilities, dark aisles, windows, and other challenging optical conditions appreciate the qualitative improvement in image quality that Hanwha is able to deliver.
Hanwha’s also offers a strong ecosystem of supporting devices and software to make managing video easy and scalable. Their Wisenet NVRs offer easy integration with cameras and a free mobile app, so smaller installations can easily view and playback video on the go without extra software costs. For larger installations or multi-site clients, their Blaze platform makes for easy centralized, remote access through a single login.
On-device AI processing makes a Hanwha deployment smarter and more-functional than a collection of lenses. Users are able to search footage with descriptions of targets, set actionable rules and notifications, and tie video from multiple cameras together across an incident.
Finally, because Hanwha offers a wide range of camera SKUs, most standard use cases can be met with a single-vendor installation. There are no problems with compatibility and inconsistent support that can be found in “Frankenstein” installations. This is especially true for deployments that need speciality hardware like PTZs, 180-degree cameras, 360-degree cameras, fisheyes, etc.
All-in-all, Hanwha offers an excellent package of reliability, capability, ease of use, and range at an excellent total cost of ownership.
